Netflix has officially greenlit a new limited series chronicling the rise, trials, and legacy of the iconic synth-pop duo Erasure

Netflix has officially greenlit a new limited series chronicling the rise, trials, and legacy of the iconic synth-pop duo Erasure — a project that will feature direct creative input from lead singer Andy Bell himself. Titled A Little Respect, the series promises an intimate and emotional retelling of the band’s journey through fame, love, heartbreak, and unapologetic queer joy.

The series, set to begin production in late 2025, will explore Erasure’s formation in the mid-1980s, when former Depeche Mode and Yazoo musician Vince Clarke teamed up with then-unknown singer Andy Bell. What followed was a streak of global hits including “Sometimes,” “A Little Respect,” “Chains of Love,” and “Love to Hate You.”

According to early reports, A Little Respect will span three decades, focusing not just on their music, but on the cultural and political climate that shaped and surrounded them. From Thatcher-era Britain to the AIDS crisis, and into the modern wave of LGBTQ+ rights, the series aims to portray Erasure as more than a pop act — but as a movement in sequins and synths.

Netflix’s press release describes the show as “visually bold, emotionally raw, and musically electric,” blending dramatized performances with archival footage and newly recorded interviews. “This isn’t just about nostalgia,” the statement reads, “it’s about resilience, freedom, and the right to be fabulous.”

Andy Bell is onboard as executive producer and story consultant. In a personal note shared to fans on Instagram, Bell said:

“It’s surreal watching your life turned into a TV series, but I’m proud and emotional. Erasure was always about being loud in love, and I think this will reflect that.”

Casting speculation has already begun online. Rumors suggest rising British actor Joe Locke (Heartstopper) is being considered for the role of young Andy Bell, while Taron Egerton (Rocketman) is rumored to be in talks to portray Vince Clarke. No official casting has been confirmed yet.

The soundtrack will be an essential part of the series. Netflix has reportedly secured full licensing to Erasure’s catalog and is planning both classic performances and modern covers by guest artists. Names like Sam Smith, Years & Years, and Christine and the Queens have been floated as potential contributors.

Fans and LGBTQ+ advocates have praised the announcement. “Erasure was one of the first bands where being gay wasn’t coded — it was celebrated,” said London-based critic Mark Fenwick. “This series has the chance to show how revolutionary joy can be.”

Though Vince Clarke has chosen not to be directly involved in the creative process, he has given the project his blessing. “I trust Andy and the team to tell our story with heart,” Clarke said in a short statement. “It was always about the music and the message.”

Production is expected to begin in Manchester and London in early 2026, with a release date slated for late 2026 or early 2027. The showrunners promise cameos, Easter eggs for diehard fans, and possibly even new music from Bell to accompany the launch.

With the success of biographical series like Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman, and George & Tammy, A Little Respect could be the next hit in the wave of music storytelling — bringing Erasure’s light, love, and legacy to an entirely new generation.
